Liam Loughlin a community liaison worker with the GRETB came in on the 27/11/2017 and talked to us about drug and alcohol abuse. He told us about the different type of drugs and consequences of using them. He told us about drugs we never heard of before drugs such as NPS, GBH ,he told us about different athletes that got hooked on drugs and how they felt these drugs helped them in their competitions and what type of drugs they used to help them.

He showed us a graph of the percentage of people who take drugs, He asked when people start on drugs do they get hooked? We all said sometimes. He mentioned some types of drugs like, cocaine, heroin, weed, alcohol, NPS, GBH, mushrooms and ecstasy. He mentioned support like rehab for people who’s lives have been taken over due to drugs.

active drugsNew psychoactive substances (NPS) are drugs which were designed to replicate the effects of illegal substances like cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy. GHB is abused by teens and young adults at bars, parties, clubs and “raves”

So overall we feel that everyone should stay away from drugs and if you are tempted get advice and support from your local clinic such as addiction counselling by Helplink on the Headford Road in Galway
